Reviews of Student Health Center @ Howard University

If I could give this a lower rating I would. I would like to start off by saying that some of these workers clearly do not care and actually do not want to do their job correctly. I was turning in my health forms for the semester before classes started. I hand the lady (she was light/fair skin, shoulder length honey blonde hair, she is an AKA) who is working the table my forms and she glances at them and then proceeds to tell me I need to get my Titers shots. I tell her that I received all of my shots 2 weeks ago prior to coming to school. I told her my copy of my shot records was there with my health forms. Without looking at my shot records, she pushes my papers to the side and tells me I need to go to the SHC immediately to get about 6 or so shots. I look at her with confusion because the shots she was telling me to get I had gotten. Some of which included my Hepatitis B, Varicella, and other shots. She tells me that I will have a hold on my account until I get those shots. I leave Blackburn Ballroom and call my doctors office just to double check. I tell them what the lady told me and they say they gave me my Titers (which I knew just needed to be sure). After that I tell myself to go back to SHC later on to clarify this situation. Fast forward to October when I have time to get my hold sorted out, I have to get an extra blood test done because I am in CNAHS. I told myself to go a few weeks before registration for second semester opened I was told my hold would be lifted in 1-2 days once my blood results came back. A week goes by and I still have a hold. At this point I am fearing I will miss class registration. I go in and I tell the person at the desk that I am here to fix a medical hold. As I am talking to the gentleman with locs, his coworker to the right of him says "I hope she knows the lab is closed". I was not talking to her to begin with, nor was I there for lab work. I had arrived around 3:00 PM and the SHC closes at 5. I do not see why 2 hours early the lab would be closed. But I felt that was rude of her to say that slick comment, even though I was not talking to her to begin work nor was I seeking to get blood work done. I finally get to speak to the lady who lifts medical holds. As I am speaking to her and explaining my situation, she tells me that I was given the wrong blood work test I had received a week ago. Apparently the nurse who did my blood work was suppose to double check with her and never did, so she gave me the wrong test. So not only had I wasted my time trying to clear my hold, But I was given the wrong injections. I was baffled because I do not understand how such negligence, rude, or unprofessional work can be done for a health center. How does one give the wrong shots or make people get shots they do not need? I am glad I did not blindly listen to the lady who told me to get my Titers shots, because it is dangerous to get the same dosage of such shots in such a short amount of time. I could have became very ill or died, who knows. The lady, I believe her name was Ms. Lena gave me a temporary lift on my hold, which I was grateful for because I was able to register for classes. She told me however that the blood results showed I had low levels for certain things. Hearing her I realized the low levels probably came from a semester of not eating properly, lack of sleep and dehydration. However, had the lady who originally seen my forms looked properly, my levels were good in the beginning of August. I now have a hold on my account AGAIN because I have to get another blood test done. But all that to say that these employees need to be more thorough and do things properly. This type of negligence is in some ways a lawsuit waiting to happen. Common courtesy is also something some of them should consider. I do not know if that lady who made that slick comment had a bad day prior to me coming, but I feel she should not have taken her feelings out on me. And to the lady who refused to read my shot records, I truly feel she does not deserve her job, or at least needs to be corrected.
