D & T Tailor Alteration Spec in Washington, District of Columbia

This is a family shop that has been in business for decades... and for good reason! The Jones family does outstanding work. This shop is an almost hidden gem in DC. I say almost hidden because it appears that native Washingtonian judges, politicians, business people and members of the community frequent this unassuming shop nestled between other small businesses. You walk in the storefront and see some custom pieces made in house, notice the no frills set up, and immediately hear gospel music playing on the radio. Mr. Jones will emerge from the large clothing rack snaking its way around the store and politely greet you. You change in one of two curtained stalls and come out to the area to stand and have alterations marked. Mr. Jones asks questions and marks the alterations with an apparent ease that belies the intensity if his attention to detail. You provide hour information and come by a few days to a week later, depending on the work done and you have master crafstman quality work returned to you. This is the kind of place that has community. You can find yourself in a food conversation with a regular who has used D & T for twenty or more years. Good friendly people. You can also find yourself in conversation with Mr. Jones and get your material and the quality of the construction of your item critiqued. I have enjoyed getting his opinion. I've been by on several occasions to get suits and a tux tailored. I was almost in a panic the other day when Google had D & T marked as permanently closed. I had to call to be sure and thankfully Mr. Jones picked up the phone and told me their hours for the day. I got by today and dropped off a suit for a wedding and have them repairing three pairs of pants that wore out and ripped at the seam. I'm confident I'll be able to put those suits back into rotation when I get my pants back. After being geo-located there I was able to get Google to re-list the business as open. Whether you need alterations, repairs, a custom piece of clothing, or anything else they do, I can't recommend D & T to you highly enough! I hope to rely on them for years to come.
